Stark County Sheriff’s Office Responds to Fatal Crash
Nimishillen Township – Stark County Sheriff George T. Maier is announcing an ongoing investigation following a fatal crash in Nimishillen Township.
On Thursday, January 11th at 6:02 p.m. deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of US 62 and California Avenue NE.
A 2005 Chevrolet Colorado, was traveling eastbound on US 62 approaching California Avenue when the driver, 47-year-old David Jones Jr. of Warren, ran the red light striking a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by 35-year-old Daniel Sharpless of Louisville, which was traveling US 62 westbound turning left on California Avenue.
Both Jones and Sharpless were treated for what appeared to be minor injuries as well as the passenger in the Chevrolet Colorado, 49-year-old Dwayne Ayers of Warren.
The passenger in the Chevrolet Cavalier, 38-year-old Kristy Griffith of Louisville, was transported to Mercy Medical Center by the Nimishillen Fire Department where she was pronounced deceased.
US 62 eastbound was closed for several hours east of Broadway Avenue NE, but has since been reopened.
The crash remains under investigation by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office and the Canton Crash Team.
