OHIO PROPERTY VALUATION HAS RECEIVED NEARLY 20 COMPLAINTS IN COLUMBIANA COUNTY

 

This information on complaint procedure was requested by WRN February 3,2017 from Columbiana County Auditor  Nancy Milliken

 

 

1.        The complaint form is on the county auditor web site

 

2.       The procedure is the same in every county in Ohio.  It is set by statute.

 

a. Once filed, an employee will visit the site to determine if the information is correct

 

b. If it is correct, our office will notify you of a hearing date.  No attorney is necessary; however, you will be required to provide evidence of what you believe the value of your property should be.

 

c. Your evidence will be presented to the county board of revisions (one county commissioner, county treasurer and county auditor (set by law)).

 

d. you will be notified by mail of the board’s decision.

 

c. If not satisfied with the decision, you may file an appeal the state board of tax appeals (again no charge) or with common pleas court.

 

d. if not satisfied with that decision, you can file with the Ohio Court of Appeals.

 

3.       reappraisals are mandated by Ohio Law once every 6 years.  Additionally, an update is mandated in the 3rd year after the reappraisal.  During reappraisal, every property is viewed on site.

 

4.       Currently, we have received between 15 and 20 complaints that have been filed.
